ART Revision

GCSE Fine Art

TIPS

  • Attend art revision on Thursday lunch times or after school on Friday
  • Practice drawing from first hand observation and use different drawing media such as pencil, pen, oil pastel, chalk pastel, biro, charcoal
  • Practice drawing on different surfaces such as plain paper, coloured papers, newspapers, maps and textured papers
  • Take photos of objects, people or places that interest you or link to your personal portfolio theme. It is far better to use your own photos than print images from the internet for your work.
  • Experiment with different drawing techniques such as blind drawing, continuous line drawing and drawing with two pens
  • Practice shading and use different shading techniques such as hatching, cross-hatching and stippling
  • Experiment with collage using an assortment of found materials
  • Research artists from different times and cultures and find out what materials they used and what inspired them. Consider how can you use their ideas to inspire your own ideas?
  • Visit art galleries such as the Tate Modern and Tate Britain, The Victoria and Albert museum, Dulwich Picture Gallery and the Horniman museum, the National Gallery and the Royal Academy. It is always best to see artwork in real life
  • Be prepared to experiment with different media, materials and processes and remember it is ok to make mistakes because you learn from mistakes and mistakes can lead to new ideas
  • Look at YouTube videos and podcasts to help you practise techniques
  • Never copy artwork – always credit the artist who has inspired you
